As if the year wasn´t already loaded with new features, there is yet another must-confirm date on the summer festival calendar and this time dedicated to metal. On Sunday July 6, Poble Espanyol will welcome the Barcelona Metal Festival, with Within Temptation, Paradise Lost, Sôber, InMune and Ankor. The five bands are making the line-up in 2014, which will be the most sugarcane event this summer in Barcelona.

Within Temptation will perform at 23:30h, Paradise Lost at 21:45h, Sôber at 20:15h, InMune at 19:15h and Ankor at 18:30h.

Why metal and why Barcelona? Because Barcelona does not have a permanent metal festival and it was about time! The Barcelona Metal Festival (BMF) was born with the intention to fill that gap and stay in the city for years to come. This is just the beginning of something that has been built up with the aim of reaching that audience acclaiming for more metal in Barcelona.

The tickets for this new festival are already on sale through www.doctormusic.com and www.ticketmaster.es, also at FNAC, Viajes Carrefour and Halcon Viajes or by telephone at 902 15 00 25 and other Ticketmaster outlets. The ticket price is 38 euros (booking fees not included).

Among the new generations of metal, the Barcelona Metal Festival will feature alternative and different subgenres that are especially relevant at the time. So-called symphonic metal is enjoying one of its best creative periods in its history, thus we will have Within Temptation as headliners. The band is undoubtedly spearheading the genre forward, especially since the release of their latest album Hydra. But apart from metal, we appreciate the show, and to open the first edition, Within Temptation will have their entire set with them, exactly the same as that which they have been touring Europe with past winter. Thus they will have video screens, effects and duets sung virtually between Sharon and some special guests plus many more surprises.

Paradise Lost could not miss this first edition of the BMF and will be our second headliner. For Paradise Lost, 2013 was the 25th Anniversary of the band; with a career dating back to 1988, and their official recording debut in 1990 (Lost Paradise), the band has been riding a rollercoaster of highs and lows ever since. In 1991 the band released Gothic. Not so much an album title as the definition for an entire genre, while the influence of 1995's huge-selling masterpiece Draconian Times, which echoes loudly on today's scene. From the crawling, harrowing doom of their 1990 debut Lost Paradise, to the electronic flourishes prevalent in 1997's One Second, 1999's Host and 2007's return to the heavier side of metal In Requiem and the latest opus Tragic Idol in 2012, their sound has continued to evolve enormously, but haunting melody and dark rock power has remained at the very core of their identity.

BMF clearly bet on the great values of the national metal. And in that sense, Sôber not have wanted to miss the premiere of this new festival. With their new album, Letargo, will arrive willing to give all one more time. Now Sôber back on the road with a tour that will provide much to talk about, with a very careful set list and showing us live these new songs included in Letargo without leaving out the great songs that positioned them as one of the best rock bands in Spain. A must in the first edition of Barcelona Metal Festival!

InMune should also be on the BMF. This particular project brings together the recognised lyrical talents of Morti (Fantástico Hombre Bala, Skizoo) with the instrumental skills of Paulo Morete (Einsof, Satrapa), David Segado (Einsof) and Carlos Dogliani (Satrapa), to give shape to a being capable of getting into the fissures of harmony and so create songs which elude category and incorporate elements of stripped down rock with electronic touches floating on a cloud of distortion, inspiring euphoria and melancholy, heartbreak and communion. This debut album Ilumíname was recorded over the summer of 2013 in The Room Studios with the production of Gorka Dresbaj (Clockwork, Katarsick, …) and kicks off the presentation of this new project, lead by Morti, a regular face on the national music scene.

As we announced a few weeks ago, each year the festival will give some local band the chance to be heard by crowds. For this first year, we have chosen Ankor, from Tarragona that, although they take 10 years on stage, their last album Last Song for Venus represents the definitive jump in their career. The album is a work of originality and quality rarely seen in Spain which has placed Ankor as one of the new reference Spanish bands and one of the youngest to have international projection.
