One of the most charismatic girls of American indie is back to our country this autumn with two essential dates. We will see Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, on Thursday November 13th at l’Auditori in Barcelona (Banc Sabadell Festival del Mil•lenni) and on Sunday, November 16th, at La Riviera in Madrid.
The tickets for Madrid are already available through www.doctormusic.com and www.ticketmaster.es, also at FNAC, Viajes Carrefour and Halcon Viajes or by telephone at 902 15 00 25 and other Ticketmaster outlets. The ticket price is 28 euros (booking fees not included).
Her first album, Dear Sir, was released in 1995 and had the support from Two Dollar Guitar's guitarist Tim Foljahn and Sonic Youth's drummer Steve Shelley, who also encouraged Marshall to release her second work, Myra Lee (1996). In 2003 arrived You Are Free, one of the most renowned of Cat Power discography, which experimented with vocal forms and beats borrowed from urban music. The album, which featured guest musicians such as Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), became the first charting Cat Power album, reaching 105 on the Billboard 200. The global boost arrived in 2006 with The Greatest, another jewel in her career, with songs such as “Where Is My Love” or “The Greatest”, which was included in Wong Kar-Wai film My Blueberry Nights.
SUN, her latest record and ninth in her career, was released in 2012 six years after her last album of original material. She wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of SUN by herself and is possibly Cat Power’s most personal album. Marshall calls it “a rebirth” which is exactly what this confident, ambitious, charismatic record feels like. It includes the classic Cat Power sound in “Cherokee”, the irresistible Latin-sounding nine-piano loop of “Ruin” and dancey electronic anthems like “Real Life” and “3,6,9”.
In November we will have the opportunity to enjoy again Cat Power energetic live, after seven years since her last performance as a headlining artist. Save the date!
