Without question, Passenger is the artist of the moment in whole Europe and he enjoys the sweetest months of his career. Meanwhile the phenomenon shoots up, his first show in our country is just confirmed. It will be a unique show and will take place at Razzmatazz in Barcelona on November 21st. Passenger will be presented accompanied by singer-songwriter Stu Larsen.
Passenger introduces himself with “Let Her Go”, a song which accumulates more than 12 #1 in single charts around Europe. His new album “All The Little Things” is also on the top of sales charts in Europe and Australia, and Spain could not be less.
Listening to Passenger singing "Let Her Go" is a mesmerist experience. The song has melodic richness, emotion and charm, and Mike Rosenberg voice (reminiscent of Cat Stevens) cannot leave anyone indifferent. Passenger is the new benchmark of folk-pop movement that runs the current scene combining traditional folk with pop-rock (good examples are Mumford & Sons, Band of Horses), grabbing awards and receiving critics' praises, glad with the return to simple songs, with beautifully maintained lyrics, perfect vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars leading over the other instruments.
In the early 2000s, there was a five-piece band called Passenger and they released a critically acclaimed debut album, “Wicked Man’s Rest”. But when the members of that band chose to go their own separate ways in 2007, Rosenberg opted to stick with the Passenger moniker and trust in his music, his voice and his guitar to take him where it would. He took to the streets and discovered not only that the experience enormous fun, but it also proved empowering for the likeable musical troubadour. “It’s great that it’s getting bigger for me but busking actually turns into a real way of life. The structure of busking and just being on your own, enjoying the cities and travelling, I dunno, there’s such a lo-fi thing that goes along with it and such an honest and simple way of living for that period of time that I really, really miss actually when I’m not doing it”, admits Mike.
Having obviously got a real taste for the busking and the travelling, he thought he’d check out sunnier weathers, that is how, in October 2009, Mike first took himself over to Australia. There he released his first album, “Flight Of The Crow”, which proved the perfect entreé into the Australian music scene. Back to United Kingdom on summer of 2012, he was touring round the country opening for one of UK pop music’s most influential figures, Jools Holland, as well as Ed Sheeran. Meanwhile the Passenger fanbase has been building very nicely, and very much from the ground up, with the busking feeding into the club gigs – all very organic. “People have a real personal relationship to our music and that personal thing is so important in making people feel part of the project and then hopefully becoming fans ultimately”. He has assured much of the way, now just left you to enjoy it with him.
This night will also include Stu Larsen’s concert. The singer-songwriter is the new folk gem on the Australian scene who, three years ago, made a decision to leave behind normality, security and comfort, choosing to live as simply as possible and to follow the opportunities that would lay themselves down in front of him. Since leaving his quiet little town in Queensland, Australia, Larsen has spent the years being on the move, touring, recording and driving through Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the UK and Europe.
