A new festival is born in
Barcelona.
Trash An’ Ready gets behind
reggae music, genre that best reflect the weird times we are living. Barcelona, the leading force in the resurgence of Caribbean and Afro-American rhythms in Spain and the nerve center of a new band scene, has a new proposal for its Summer Music program.
“
Trash An’ Ready” is a popular Jamaican slang expression which means something very fashionable and elegant, a fitting description for the current state of the
reggae music scene.
On best possible spot in the city,
El Poble Espanyol, on
August 10th it will fill its main square with
SOJA, Black Uhuru, The Skatalites and
Pirat's Sound Sistema’s concerts.
Marcus Reggaeland will be our MC and guest DJ to complete the night between performances.

SOJA:
SOJA have become a launch pad for a new generation of reggae bands that are revitalizing the genre. Over the past few years they have sold more than 150.000 albums, played in over 15 countries and pulled in over 20 million hits on YouTube. With works such as “
Peace in a Time of War” (2002), “
Get Wiser” (2006) and “
Born in Babylon” (2009), they have risen to the top of the reggae world. With their new album, “
Strength to Survive”, inspired by Bob Marley’s 1979 album “
Survival”, the band makes an impassioned call for unity and change with universal songs of faith, hope and love.
BLACK UHURU feat. Andrew Bees & Kaye Starh & The Iqulah Rastafari Band:
“Duckie” Simpson, one of the legends of the genre and one of the few remaining survivors of the Golden age, is back with his companions of recent years and the Iqulah Rastafari Band.
Black Uhuru’s long success has allowed them to become ambassadors of the genre. With 14 full length albums, 7 instrumental dub’s, and 4 live’s they have the highest record sales in reggae music behind Bob Marley. The band made history when they won the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music in 1984 for the album “
Anthem”.
THE SKATALITES:
The Skatalites began performing in Jamaica in May 1964. With members from other groups, the band soon became a legend, backing all the developing artists of the day, such as Toots and The Maytals, Prince Buster and “The Wailing Wailers” featuring Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. These groups were all jumping on the new beat called ska, which had an infectious rhythm that was catching on like wildfire. Eventually, the beat slowed down into rocksteady, and then reggae. Featuring original alto sax man Lester “Ska” Sterling and vocalist Doreen Shaffer, along with the current lineup of outstanding musicians they have chosen to accompany them, the band proudly presents live the music of Jamaican Ska.
PIRAT’S SOUND SISTEMA:
The first Jamaican sound system in Catalan born in 2003 in the Barcelona’s Sants district. To the rhythm of reggae, dancehall, rap and drum'n'bass,
Pirat's Sound Sistema sing to the daily nature of the street and XXI century's youth. Their first LP, "
Sants Sistema" invested in 2005, followed by "
Vol II" in 2007. Now, they have just released their third reference, "
Em bull la sang" funded by Verkami’s crowdfunding. At Poble Espanyol they will be the finest representatives of the effervescent and active local scene in the genre, which enjoy one of the best moments in its history.
